If you work for Kaplan, you can expect to audition for a teaching job.
What they don't tell you is that if you are offered a substitute job, you must take it or suffer retaliation.

I turned down a sub job for a Fri. and now Kaplan tells me they are cutting my 3 week class to 2 weeks.

In the meantime, the camp counselors, social directors, and office staff are working 40 hour work weeks. The "mission" is to provide employment for Kaplan teachers, staff, etc. If you are hired for the summer, you are 2nd priority. The main priority is keeping the students entertained and socially active. The other priority is keeping Kaplan teachers and staff working.

I get it. However, they don't have to treat me like crap. Crying or Very sad

The actual name is Kaplan International Centers.....they still treat ESL teachers like dirt. Kaplan instructors are the main teachers during summer and year-round. They get to be teachers by acing the SAT, LSAT, GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, or whatever exam they score over 95% on.

Their teaching qualifications could be non-existent--- they all teach to a test. Summer time is the exception because they have to entertain and teach, so there is special Kaplan training on how to do this....I just won't expect it while I teach there.

They are also very protective about copyrighted Kaplan materials and you have to have training about how to handle their material.....hmmmm......I think I have an idea......... Twisted Evil

Kaplan Center promised one class where I would teach for 3 weeks.
Then they put me in as a substitute for a teacher on vacation.
Total teaching time: 4 days.

The only thing I did to upset them was that I completed their employee training in 6.5 hours and they told me (AFTER THE FACT) was that I should have taken 4 hours.

Save yourself aggravation and wasted time by skipping Kaplan as an employer. They only hire people who score 95% on these stupid tests and summer camp is reserved mostly for Kaplan teachers.

Their company memos smugly comment on how there is no shortage of teachers for summer camp or test classes. You don't need to waste your time on these bastards. Razz
