I was just turned down for a job in Sri Lanka because I had long hair and wore earrings. However I was allowed to teach a full year in 4 government schools in Thaialnd like that. Having it in a pony tail.

I thought it was part of your personality and privacy and that cannot be touched, or is this only valid in Europe?

In most countries including most of Europe and the Americas employers can establish minimum dress codes and deny employment based on appearance. They can't discriminate against you for being ugly but they can decide not to hire you based on your dress.

Seriously though, if they're like that, would you really want to work for them?

My hair is very fine - and so, sadly, I have to have it very short. A shoulder length bob suits me best, but my hair is now too fine to wear it like that. I think myarka is right - that the condition of your hair determines how long you have it.
