|
|
Hello,
I am a modern foreign languages student (not an English native speaker) and at the moment I am in the process of choosing my Master's course. I would be incline to pursue a career in language teaching although I am still not 100% sure of what I will be doing in the future after my degree. I am really undecided between two courses, would there be much of a difference between an MA in Language Learning and Education and an MA in Applied Linguistics and ELT? Which one do you think would open up more opportunities? Is there a significant difference between these courses?
I would appreciate it greatly if any of you with more experience in this field could give me advice. Thank you in advance |

ooh! ooh! I vote for MA in Applied Linguistics........they are often named MA in TESL if they have a heavy teaching component. Applied Ling. would be more theoretical.
Make sure you get a scholarship and soak the taxpayers for the cost of your education!!

I vote for a degree in the language of the place you wish to teach in. _________________ マンツーマン 英会話 神戸 三宮 リアライズ - James |

I agree with James.
Mine was MA ESL ('07), but I was a native speaker already teaching in Spain with only a BA Spanish & TEFL. I'm now the top-paid teacher at my school in Chile. A colleague's situation is closer to yours, and she did the research. She has Diplomas in EFL & ELE (teaching English & Spanish), and is convinced that MA English Linguistics is the best path for her. She wants to be a headmistress or eventually start her own school, and believes this will give a native Spanish-speaking woman the credibility that she needs in a machista culture. |

I have completed graduation and master degree in Science. Is it enough for becoming a teacher? Or is it necessary to have ESL teachers training to apply for the post of secondary teacher? |

Get an MBA and then get a CELTA or something like that. Then you will be running your own school, making a lot of money and everybody will be groveling for you instead of you for them. |

Hi,
While having a graduate and master's degree in Science is a strong foundation, it's often necessary to complete ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher training or obtain relevant teaching credentials to become a secondary teacher, especially if you plan to teach in schools where English is not the primary language. These qualifications enhance your teaching skills and prepare you for the specific demands of working with diverse student populations. Check the specific requirements of the institution or school district where you intend to apply for teaching positions. |
