I don't know if this has been talked about already (couldn't find any mention of it in a board search), but....is there any circumstance under which a teacher is paid for lesson planning? May seem like a silly question, but I'm about to interview for my first job and don't know if that's a reasonable expectation...
Thanks!

I would think that most situations do not offer additional pay for lesson planning, particularly salaried positions. It's simply part of the job. If it's an hourly rate, paid out on class time only, then it's well worth researching just how much extra time you'll spend on planning when making the decision to accept an offer.

If you are working for a monthly salary you should find that your weekly teaching amounts to about 25 - 28 hours classroom contact per week. Since a working week is around 38 hours, you are effectively given time to plan lessons and this is part of your contractual obligation.

However, if you are paid by the hour then the rate needs to be sufficient to cover the additional time needed for planning. It is perfectly reasonable to discuss this with your potential employer so that you make sure you are offered a sum that covers this aspect.
