someone, please help. I was living and working in Switzerland when I got my CELTA certification. I am now back in the states and i can't get my foot in the door anywhere to get started teaching because I don't have a bachelor's degree and I am itching to get my hands into teaching. I can't even begin to get experience for the schools that simply require experience and a TEFL certificate. Should I give up? Please help!  |

Welcome back to the U.S. The truth is that you are now in a country of native speakers, unlike Switzerland. Your CELTA doesn't mean as much here because of that. Depending on where you are, there may not even be that many ESL students in need of a class.
You're going to need that Bachelor's degree. And it will probably have to be in a related field (at least in the U.S.). Education, TESL, or linguistics would be your best bets. Meanwhile, you can offer your services as a tutor, either independently or through an agency. Once you have the degree, you can teach anywhere in the world. Though, you may still have trouble in the U.S.
