|
|
I'm seriously thinking of starting up a group in our local village to enable the locals to 'learn English'. We've been here over a year now and are the 'only English in the village'! We have made great efforts to integrate and are slowly getting to know local people. It takes time but it's been very rewarding. Recently I've met 2 or 3 people who speak no English but are keen to learn. I am happy to get together a group as a community 'project' and meet weekly to have simple conversation. My French is OK but I am not a teacher but enjoy communication very much. Any advice as to the best way to start and how and with what. Is there anybody out there who perhaps has sone the same thing?
Awaiting eagerly

Whatever you do, don't to let them take the conversation club completely for free, it will seem too easy. Have them pay some sybolic price up front, then you can refund it them after they have completed the ccourse, maybe passed the exam or attend all the time. This will increase movitation.
It is a great idea! |

Perhaps you could develop a list of themes for each night, to see what catches the local interest.
-poetry
-movie reviews
-politcal debate/discussion
-crafts
-travel
-etc, etc _________________ Life is a verb, not a noun - Now Bloggin' and Working Hard |

that's very good idea! but how about you offer your teaching free for about a week just so you could see if they're really interested in learning english. just consider it as trial and error. |

I must agree with Sammy. Try it for a week and see how it goes. The really interested ones will come back and will even pay to learn how to speak English. These are the ones who probably knows its importance or are already thinking of/planning to learn the language. Good luck! _________________ Rebecca Hartstrom |
