Hey all- I'm new to ESL-employment.com and I was hoping to get some advice into American's who want to teach english abroad in Western Europe.

Basically:
1) Will the E.U (Italy in particular) hire American's and go through the bureaucratic process of getting their work visa for them?

2) if anyone knows if it's possible to get a work visa with a bachelor's degree and TEFL certificate from a private/public school in Italy??

I'm planning on moving to Rome in April, and this info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

I found these websites which may answer your questions regarding teaching in Italy:

http://www.transitionsabroad.com/listings/work/esl/italy.shtml
http://www.americantesol.com/teach-in-Italy.htm

I understand this is just a forum and not many of us care about our own English skills when writing in these situations. However, I thought I would add this for new ESL/EFL teachers to think about:

As an ESL employer, I rarely interview teachers whose application letters or resumes contain frequent errors, such as spelling and obvious punctuation errors. You might like to check your punctuation - apostrophe and lower case/upper case usage (e.g., "American's and "english").

I believe many teachers are eliminated from the interview process based on these simple errors.
If a student wishes to have writing classes, it is expected that the ESL/EFL teacher would know common punctuation rules.

Good luck in Italy
