Aloha,

This is my first post here.

I've applied for a teaching post at Hailiang International School in Zhejiang Province. I'm highly qualified and experienced. However, I was turned down because I'm of Asian/Polynesian decent. I'm originally from Hawaii but I do not have an ounce of Hawaiian or Polynesian blood in me. I am, however, half Chinese and half Filipino as many people from Hawaii are. Disappointing to say the least.

Welcome Tanyujie.

It is not enough to be well qualified; you have to look English, as well. Blonde hair, blue eye, white skin, oherwise the parents think they are not getting the real thing and so the school owner won't make any money, if he has no students

You just have to keep trying...

Best of luck.

Thanks George,

I've been teaching in China on and off since 1996 so it's nothing new. I would tell other Asians to stay away from the big cities and head to the smaller ones. Beggars can't be choosers. But now it seems that even the small town beggars are wanting to become choosy and only want "whites only".

What about age?
I am 70 but appear much younger and certainly act so!
Can not find a position and believe it is due to my age!
Been teaching for 50 years!

I guess this way schools will all have to realize that there's something called the internet, people talk, and these actions reflect badly on the school and the country the schools are in as well.????
