Good and Bad News... The very strict COVID restrictions and lockdowns in China along with very strict employment requirements for foreign teachers have reduced the number of foreign teachers in China to just under 10,000, the lowest in almost 20 years. Travel to other cities within China have become difficult and most clubs and bars open to foreigners have closed since 2019. Socializing with locals and dating have been greatly discouraged by the government. The good news is that with so few foreigners still willing to work in China, the monthly salaries of QUALIFIED foreign TEFL teachers is now averaging 25,000 rmb with more perks than ever including free furnished housing and 3 months paid vacation (IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO SIGN A 12 MONTH CONTRACT). But the fun times of teaching in China has been put on hold - and hopefully temporarily. Sorry friends, we wish we had better news to share with you.
