Late last year, I applied to Westgate to see if I could get employed in Japan. I was applying to other places and Westgate really asked for a lot of information: transcripts, degrees, references, credentials. I had trouble lining up references, so in Dec. 2018 I stopped talking to them.
In April 2019, they sent me an email saying that I could go as a "back up" teacher if I could finish my application, which was online. I asked them if my application was still online and they answered "no." so I didnt bother starting from scratch all over again.
However, I did start over about a month later. I thought I could get it finished in time for classes in Sept. I underestimated the Japanese insistence on paperwork.
They wantted copies of MA degrees & transcripts. I gave them copies. Then they wanted copies of BA degrees & transcripts. I gave them copies. Then they wanted a lesson plan on a conversation lesson. By this time, I was wary of the amount of effort I was putting into this. No interview had been scheduled because the Japanese (inscrutably) insist on paperwork before doing an interview.
After I turned in the lesson plan (about a day late on their deadline) they sent me a rejection email. No interview, no explanation of why I was turned down or why they declined to interview.
Westgate is an incredible waste of time for only the promise of 260,000 yen and at that price, it's not worth it.
Don't go to Westgate. I would be happy to see if anyone had a pleasant experience with these sleazeballs.
