I have a MDiv and am teaching ESL at a church on a volunteer basis. It is great! I love to see the students learn. So, I have been researching Master degree programs in TESL and returning to school. A friend of mine, who has experience teaching ESL, believes I could get a teaching position in the US at a junior college with my MDiv and the online course I'm taking now. The online course is 150 hours and I'm getting experience with the class at church. But I can't quite share his beliefs on this matter. I believe I need more than an online course and a degree than one that isn't related to linguistics. Thoughts?

The bottom line is that the schools decide so the only way to be 100% sure is to check the adverts for the kind of job you're after in different locations and see what they are looking for.

You could also write to the kind of school where you'd like to teach and ask them directly.

This way you'll get it straight from the horse's mouth!
